Rachael+Hannah
Meet one of our doula duos Rachael and Hannah.
Rachael Hutchins: Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator - Rachael offers evidence based education and authentic, trustworthy, and individualized care during pregnancy and birth. Rachael became a doula in 2014 after the birth of her first son. She has helped many families along their journey to becoming parents. She is a mother to 2 boys. She lives and plays in the North Metro Atlanta area in Georgia. Being outdoors hiking, biking, and exploring nature is by far her favorite way to spend time.
Hannah Atterberry: Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Newborn Care Educator - Hannah offers compassionate, non-judgmental, and holistic prenatal and postpartum care. Hannah has been a doula since 2017 and has helped many birthing people and their families along their journey through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. She is a mother to 3 bonus sons and 1 biological daughter. When she’s not doing birth work, she enjoys spending time with my family, kickboxing, and getting out in nature.
How Birth Doula Teams Work:
Did you know when you hire us, you get not just one but TWO certified birth doulas on your birth support team?
We believe in supporting not only birthing families in a meaningful and impactful way so that they can have the best possible chance at having the birth they desire and deserve but we also co-doula so that we can have sustainable, effective, and long-lasting careers as doulas and members of our birth community. With two doulas as part of your birth support team, you will receive:
2x the support
2x the knowledge
2 different perspectives
2 different sets of experiences
Built in back-up doula who you are already familiar with.…all brought together to provide you with all the informational, emotional, and physical support you need to help you navigate your unique path to giving birth.
Our goal is to instill strength and reduce fear so that you can feel empowered to have a safe, healthy, and satisfying birth experience.
From the time of hire through 12-weeks postpartum, you will have two doulas available to you via phone, text, email, and Voxer (walkie-talkie communication app) plus two prenatal meetings, plus continuous in-person support during your birth.
For your birth, we share a call schedule — we alternate being on-call for you in the weeks surrounding your estimated due date. This keeps us feeling rested, connected, and supported in our personal lives so that we come into your birth with the energy, passion, and the support you deserve!
We are DEDICATED to this work and to serving our doula families.
Our Story
It is rare you cross paths with someone and know instantly that you have a connection and that the universe is working in beautiful ways. This happened for us! Our mutual friend and fellow birth professional, Dr. Shannon O’Brien introduced us. We met for coffee and a bagel at one of the local bagel shops and the rest is history.
We were both working on our own businesses doing birth and postpartum doula work. Hannah was pregnant at the time and shared her beautiful family’s story and by the end of our conversation, Rachael offered to be Hannah’s doula for her upcoming birth. After meeting Hannah’s amazing husband and getting to know each other a little more, Hannah decided to hire Rachael as her doula! This was definitely the beginning of a very special relationship. Over the course of the next 2 years, Hannah and Rachael worked independently but maintained connection.
During the 2020 pandemic, we met at a local park and sat outside and discussed what we were experiencing inside the birth community. The conversation about partnership was mentioned and discussed and the many benefits of a good doula partnership.
The seed was planted! From there, we slowly watered it, fed it, and nourished our relationship and our desires to grow our birth business in partnership grew stronger.
After working together with a couple of clients, we had a meeting where we shared our vision for the future. And with shaky hands, excited voices, and ready hearts we decided to create a co-doula partnership and thus North Atlanta Birth Services was born.
We both have similar “big picture” views on making birth work sustainable, serving our community, and helping other doulas do the same.
We are excited for the next chapter in our birth business and for what the future holds. Providing compassionate, holistic, individualized, and evidence based care to birthing people should be the norm but unfortunately it is not. We are ready and willing to change that and we will do it one birth at a time!
